LEATHER

Each model has specifications for each model design. When your order is placed, the saddle maker will hand-cut the leather chosen for your order. The leather is cut to the specifications of both the model design and requirements stated on the order for both horse and rider. Each leather hide has its own uniqueness within the leather which includes the scars, uneveness with the colour and any weakness within the hide. When hand-cutting the leather, our masters are able to carefully identify and assure the structural integrety within the leather. This process ensures our strict quality control guidelines giving our clients the confidence they deserve in the products they order through XVII.

SADDLE TREE

In order to achieve symmetry through the tree is the molding process of manufacturing the saddle tree. Each saddle is made through hand pouring the material into the mold while ensuring the final set of the tree is correct. The next step is to attach all stainless steel parts onto the tree including the gullet plate, stirrup bars and spring-steel.

HAND SEWN

All saddle model patterns are prepared and sewn by hand by our masters. After cutting the leather, leather dye is applied to the edging to ensure the leather is sealed. After applying leather glue to specific areas of the pattern, our masters carefully sew leather to both ensure structural integrity and add unique design features.

THE SEAT

Each saddle seat is prepared by hand. After the different layers of foam are applied to the saddle tree, the saddler rasps the seat by hand to the required curvature to match the saddle seat and rider requirements.

SEAT LEATHER

After the leather has been prepared and sewn, the saddler places the leather into water to hydrate the leather in order to set the seat onto the saddle. After hydrating the leather, the leather is stretched onto the saddle tree and is carefuly stretched onto the seat. This provides the assurance that when after the leather has been securely set onto the saddle and has dried, the leather has taken the shape of the curvature of the seat. This timely process, when done right, helps prevent unneccesary creasing within the saddle seat.

Each panel from XVII is hand flocked by our master saddlers with premium English wool that we purchase from the industries leading suppliers. The pure English wool used is imperative to provide all the natrual postive advantages assisting in proper saddle fit. Pure wool has many natural qualities including wicking the heat and moisture away from the horses back in-turn, keeping the horses back cool. The secondary major advantage of pure wool is the protien within the fibres offering anti-bacterial qualities elminating bacteria withn the panels of the saddle.

Each saddle goes through a extensive quality control in both The United Kingdom and XVII Headoffice to be very viligent to make sure our clients are recieving a saddle of top quality. Far exceeding the industry standards of both saddle making and the end product.
